The DSNLU Centre for Child and Law (DSNLU – CCL) is established on 24th September 2017 with an objective of serving the needs of the domestic society and to research on the intricate strands that bind the child and law. Children have rights, but the extent to which those rights are realized is always a matter of quandary for the policy makers and researchers.In furtherance of the research objective of DSNLU Visakhapatnam the Centre for Child and Law (CCL) focus on the  development of  center as a specialized center  of excellence of promotion of advanced learning ,teaching research, capacity building and conducting outreach program  in the field of child Rights. The world today is facing the problems of Food, Education and Deviance (FED). Children are no exception to this. The CCL is committed to undertake quality research on the Law relating to Children.

VISION

To undertake quality research on the FED challenges of Law and Child, which includes

  • The challenge of Food;
  • The challenge of Education; and
  • The challenge of Deviance

MISSION

To serve the needs of the domestic society and to do research on the intricate strands that bind the Child and Law. The CCL aims at finding answers to the FED challenges by

  • Undertaking research;
  • Organizing conferences; and
  • Workshops by involving the stakeholders to realize the rights of the child.

EVENTS

Legal Awareness Program organized at Z.P. High School, Ravalamma Palem

The Centre for Child and Law, DSNLU on 5th November 2018 conducted awareness program for enlightening the young students of the ZP High School, Ravalamma Palem, on the concepts of ‘Safe touch’ and ‘Unsafe touch’. Child Rights, Child Laws and Career Development, by involving the students Committee of Centre for Child and Law. The CCL students actively participated in program by creating awareness among the school children regarding the above issues.

ONE DAY TRAINING PROGRAM ONCHILD RIGHTS AND CHILD LAWS TO THE SCHOOL TEACHERS, SABBAVARAM MANDALAM

One-day training program on Child Rights and Child Laws for school teachers Sabbavaram, Mandal was organized by the Centre for Child and Law, DSNLU on 27.10.2018 in the University campus with the following objectives –

  1. To give orientation to the school teachers regarding child issues and problems.
  2. To create awareness about child rights child legislations i.e., Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences 2012, Juvenile Justice Act 2015, and Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006.
  3. To inspire and motivate the teachers regarding the child issues and be proactive in solving them.

About 80 teacher trainees participated in the program. The program was inaugurated by Honble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) V. Kesava Rao DSNLU, Mandal Education Officer Sri Narasinga Rao; Mandal Development Officer addressed the participants. Registrar Dr.Dayananda Murthy, Dean Academic Affairs Prof.P.Sridevei, IQAC Director Prof.R.Anita Rao and other faculty members participated in the inaugural session.

INAUGURATION OF CENTRE FOR CHILD AND LAW

DATE: SEPTEMBER 24, 2017

Prof. (Dr). R.Venkata Rao, Vice-Chancellor, National Law School of Indian University (NLSIU) inaugurated the Centre for Child and Law on September 24th, 2017. The book titled “My Food My Right” translated by Ms. V. Vijaya Lakshmi in regional language was releasedand to mark this event memorable,  released Child Awareness Short film titled as “Infanshine” made by the members of student committee CCL.

VOCAL INTEGRITY (2017)

Vocal Integrity, an elocution competition was held on Monday, 6th November 2017 with 20 participants of all semester students of DSNLU. The themes for the Elocution competition-2017 were not confined to child rights related issues alone but also cover issues of child trafficking, child prostitution, child nutrition, child right to education, child marriage, child livelihood etc. The competition served as a source of encouragement and confidence for the students.

INDUCTION PROGRAMME TO THE MEMBERS OF Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. (APSCPCR)

Centre for Child and Law (CCL), DSNLU in association with UNICEF and the State Government, has organized an innovative and unique program of three-day Induction session from 21st Nov to 23rd November 2017 on Child rights for the members of APSCPCR from six districts of Andhra Pradesh. The training was conceptualized with an intent to enhance the knowledge of the participants about laws and issues relating to Children. The following books in regional language (Telugu) authored by Mrs. V.Vijaya Lakshmi, Research Assistant, DSNLU and were released in the name of “PraJaLa( Prasna-Javabu-Law)” Seershikas:

1) FAQ’s on the Juvenile Justice (care and protection of children) Act 2015 (Seershika1.

2) FAQ’s on POCSO Act 2012(Seershika-2).

Legal Awareness Program organized in the Govt., School at Gottivada

The Centre for Child and Law, DamodaramSanjivayya National Law University on 4th December 2017 conducted awareness program for enlightening the young students of the Government school, Gottivada on the concepts of ‘Safe touch’ and ‘Unsafe touch’.On 16th February, similar program was organised at the Govt. High School, pendurthi, isakhapatnam by involving the students Committee of Centre for Child and Law. The students actively articipated in program by creating awareness among the school children regarding the above issues.

INDUCTION TRAINING PROGRAMME TO THE CHAIRPERSONS AND MEMBERS OF THE CHILD WELFARE COMMITTEE (CWC)

A 3-day induction-training programme to the Chairpersons and Members of Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Andhra Pradesh from 6th March to 8th March, 2018 was conducted at DSNLU. It was organized by Department of Juvenile Welfare, Correctional Services and Welfare of Street Children and Department of Women Development and Child Welfare of Andhra Pradesh in association with UNICEF and DSNLU. Shri Arun Kumar, IAS, Special Commissioner of Women Development and Child Welfare Department, Shri G.Hymavathi, APSCPCR Chairperson, Shri Prasad Murthy, Joint Director, Juvenile Welfare Department had graced their presence to this Program. Prof. (Dr) V. Kesava Rao, Vice Chancelor, DSNLU had released the book “PraJaLa (Prasna-Javabu-Law)”Seershika – 3 (FAQ’s), which was authored by Ms. V. Vijaya Lakshmi, Research Assistant, in regional language.

13th  to 15th MARCH 2018 (2nd Batch)

The three-day Induction-Training Program to the Chair Person and members of child Welfare committee from 13 March to 15 March 2018 was conducted for Batch II. It was organized by Department of Juvenile Welfare Correctional Services and Welfare of Street Children and Department of Women Development and Child Welfare of Andhra Pradesh in association with UNICEF and DSNLU.

THREE DAY TRAINING PROGRAMME TO THE MEMBERS OF JUVENILE JUSTICE BOARD AND PRINCIPAL MAGISTRATES

The three day Interactive Training Program for Juvenile Justice Board and principal magistrates was conducted from 22 March to 24 March 2018 on the concepts of child protection and all other child related laws. It was organized by the Department of Juvenile Welfare, correctional services and welfare of street children in association with DSNLU. Forty delegates participated in the program. Prof. (Dr.) V. Kesava Rao, the Vice- Chancellor, DSNLU reassured that the juvenile board members can approach CCL for clearing their queries related to Child laws.

TWO DAY TRAINING PROGRAMME TO THE FUNCTIONARIES OF THE CHILD CARE INSTITUTIONS AND CHILD LINE ON JUVENILE JUSTICE ACT,2015 AND JUVENILE JUSTICE RULES 2016.

The Two-day training programme to the functionaries of Child Care Institutions (CCI) and child line on the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 and Juvenile Justice Rules 2016 was conducted from 27th march to 28th march, 2018. The event is organized by the District Child Protection unit in co-ordination with Juvenile welfare department and DSNLU.This batch consisted of hundred members. Smt. G Chinmayi Devi, Project Director (FAC), Women and Child Development agency Visakhapatnam inaugurated the session. The event was conductedwith an objective of orienting functionaries of child Care Institutions about the rules and regulations specified in the statutes.

Legal Awareness Program organized in the Govt., School at Aripaka

The faculty and students of Centre for Child and Law of DSNLU organized legal awareness program in Aripaka High School for the purpose of enlighten the students about their personal and Environmenthygiene on 20th July 2018.

REPORT ON OBSERVATION VISIT TO PAPA HOME AT VISAKHAPATNAM

The Center for Child and Law of DSNLU organizedObservation visit to PAPAHome at Visakhapatnam involving students and faculty members on 02.08.2018. The students collected data from the institution.The following faculty and students participated in the observation visit.

2 day Training program to the Frontline Functionaries of Govt. &NGOs,CCIs

The program was organized by the District Child Protection,DW&CDA in coordination with Juvenile Welfare Department and Centre for child and Law, DSNLU in the university campus on 6th&7th August 2018.The object of the training program is to acquaint the above functionaries with Child Rights, JJ Act along with JJ rules and to teach them how to deal with the children by following the do’s and don’ts while working with the children.

One day Training program to the Child Welfare police Officers

One-day training program to the Child Welfare Police Officers (CWPO) was organized by the District Child Protection, DW&CDA in coordination with Juvenile Welfare Department and Centre for Child and Law, DSNLU in the university campus on 17th August 2018 for orienting the officers about the relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 and POCSO Act 2012 for their effective enforcement.

Centre for child and Law Celebration of the 1st anniversary on 24th September 2018

The Centre for Child and Law on the eve of completion of one year celebrated 1st anniversary on 24th September 2018 as part of the Foundation day events. former chief justice of Srilanka Sri Mohan Peri was invited as a chief guest and released “INFANSHINE” Newsletter, “Pra ja Law “Sheershika 4 and 5. Prizes were distributed to winners of Chitram Photography Contest 2018. The dashboard was arranged to display the ongoing programs and activities of Centre and news relating to offences against children, new Judgements, Commentaries, Amendments, and Child related Law and Policy updates. The dashboard was inaugurated by the chief guest.The Hon’ble Vice chancellor Prof.(Dr) V.Kesava Rao. Dr. DayandaMurthy,Registrar, Prof.(Dr) P. Sri Devi, Dean academic Affairs and Research, Prof.M.Lakshmipathi Raju Faculty Advisor, CCL, Convener Ms. V.Vijaya Lakshmi , CCL, faculty members, supporting staff and students participated in the anniversary celebrations.

“Chitram 2018” Photography contest winners

The Cenrtre for Child and Law organized Photography Competition i.e. Chitram 2018 with the objective of depicting present day conditions of children in Indian society. Students have collected photos during June 2018, depicting various prevailing child issues. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the competition by Former chief Justice of Srilanka on 1st anniversary of Centre for Child and Law held on 24.09.2018.The following students are the winners of the competition:

THE SHADOW PALY ON DRUG ADDICTION OF YOUTH AND CHILD MARIAGES

Under the auspices of the Centre for Child and Law of DSNLU, the students enacted the shadow play on the themes of Drug addiction of youth and child marriagesin the context of JnanaBheri program organized under the steward ship of Honble Chief Minister Sri Nara Chandra Babu Naidu in the AU Campus from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm on 23rd August 2018.
