Vice Chancellor’s Message

Prof.(Dr.) D. Surya Prakasa Rao

It is a matter of honor and immense pleasure that destiny has given me an opportunity to be a part of the Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University (DSNLU) family as Vice -Chancellor. I am deeply humbled to serve in a capacity that allows me to contribute to Legal Education. I believe in three methods as suggested by (Confucius), we may learn Wisdom first, by reflection, which is noblest, second by imitation which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest. The legal education scenario globally has witnessed a significant change in approach and remarkable growth. In an increasingly interconnected world, our university prepares students to navigate the complexities of global legal systems.

DSNLU aims to excellence in Legal Education and to provide high-quality legal education that is rigorous, comprehensive, and intellectually stimulating. As a globally recognized institution DSNLU strives for providing exceptional legal education, fostering academic excellence, and nurturing legal scholars and professionals of the highest caliber.

Our University offers a diverse range of programs and courses i.e., B.A., LLB, LLM, Ph.D., and LLD, and the curriculum is designed to equip students with a deep understanding of the law, critical thinking skills, and ethical values. The lawyer of tomorrow must be comfortable interacting with other professions on an equal footing. Along with social science inputs, the law curriculum for the future must provide integrated knowledge of a whole range of physical, natural and social science subjects on which legal policies are now being formulated.

The University focuses on the various aspects of Law and Legal Education and highlight the tasks before the legal fraternity in strengthening the institutional and ideological bases of Legal Education and Profession in India and transforming itself into an Institution of Excellence to discharge its role of imparting transformative justice.

The politics of legal education and the economics of law practice should be subjected to academic scrutiny if the legal profession in India has to be saved. Justice must become central to the law curriculum and community-based learning must give the desired value orientation in the making of a lawyer.

In the changed scenario, the additional roles envisaged for an Advocate are that of a polity planner, business advisor, negotiator among interest groups, expert in articulation and communication of ideas, mediator, lobbyist, law reformer, etc. These roles demand specialized knowledge and skills not ordinarily available in the existing profession.

Our University aims to cultivate ethical leaders in the legal profession. It emphasizes the importance of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct. Students are encouraged to uphold the highest standards of ethics, ensuring that they not only possess legal expertise but also demonstrate moral character and a strong commitment to upholding the law. It promotes diversity and inclusivity, welcoming students, faculty, and staff from various backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives. It creates an inclusive learning environment where different viewpoints are respected, fostering a rich and vibrant academic community. The real strength of University is Students and Research Scholars.

I congratulate and commend the students for choosing this noble path. For creating the Good Leaders of Tomorrow our university prepares students to meet the challenges of tomorrow by showing them the right path by delivering quality education and developing young minds with ethical and moral values while boosting their leadership qualities, research culture, and innovative skills. This is the most empowering time of your life.  In the ever-changing landscape of law and society, it is crucial to stay updated with the latest developments and trends. I urge you to actively participate in seminars, workshops, and conferences, both within and outside our institution. These experiences will broaden your horizons and prepare you for the challenges of the legal profession.

Moreover, I encourage you to foster a spirit of collaboration and camaraderie among yourselves. Your peers are valuable resources; learn from each other, challenge each other’s perspectives, and grow together as future legal luminaries. Remember that success is not solely about individual achievement but also about uplifting and empowering those around you. I am committed to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student feels valued and respected. I hope that upon your graduation, you will take pride in what you have achieved in these coming years.

I look forward to witnessing your growth and achievements. Together, let us continue to uphold the noble principles of justice, fairness, and integrity that define the legal profession. Finally I take this opportunity to wish all the students a successful journey towards Excellence.

Warm Wishes,
