DRISHTIKON

DRISHTIKON

Drishtikon is a student-run committee which organizes weekly discussions on contemporary socio-legal, political and historical issues. We provide a platform for students of DSNLU to freely express their drishtikon or point of view. Each week, we put up a new topic which is in the talks and students show up to share their understanding of the issue. We have a moderator for the discussion who starts the discussion by giving a brief on the topic and sets the flow of the discussion. It’s the moderator’s duty to make sure that the discussion goes on smoothly and all viewpoints are heard without making it a polarising debate. So far, our moderators have ensured peaceful discussions even on highly controversial topics like Religion and Ethnic conflicts. Since it’s almost like an informal discussion, students feel free to express their unfiltered and raw opinions. We provide a platform for students to learn and grow as individuals and professionals.

Apart from our weekly discussions, we also conduct panel discussions and policy discussion competitions.

So far, we’ve conducted 3 paneldiscussions. The first Panel Discussion was on the Abrogation of Article 370 and the second one was on the Supreme Court judgement on the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The latest edition was on the Forest Conservation (Amendment) Bill. It also had an esteemed academician, Dr. J. Uma Rao from GITAM School of Law, on the panel. More editions of the panel discussion with interesting topics are in the works.

VIVIDH is our annual policy discussion competition. It is a one-of-its-kind event wherein the participants are given a draft legislation (made by the members of Drishtikon) and asked to propose amendments. They would be marked on their skill of interpreting the clauses, proposing the amendments, viability of these amendments and their ability to lobby the fellow participants for their amendments to be passed. So far foureditions have been successfully conducted.

NEETI is our policy drafting competition conducted in collaboration with Orpheus Sabha Foundation, which aims to provide platform for students from diverse backgrounds to showcase their skill in policy analysis and drafting. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with real world policy challenges and propose innovative solutions. In the first edition the problem was based on Deepfakes, while in our recent and 2.0 edition of Neeti the problem was based on Satellite Internet.

We are coming up with many more interesting discussions and events.
